How to use the Garden Soil Calculator

Select the type of space you want to fill, enter its measurements, and choose the appropriate units. The calculator converts your measurements and estimates the total volume of soil required.

For pots and planters, the estimate assumes a cylindrical shape. For tapered or unusually shaped containers, the actual amount of soil may be different.

How is the soil quantity calculated?

Raised garden bed:

Length × Width × Soil Depth

Round pots and planters:

π × Radius² × Fill Height × Number of Pots

Custom garden area:

Garden Area × Soil Depth

All measurements are converted to metres before calculating volume. The result is then converted into litres and cubic feet.

1 cubic metre = 1,000 litres. 1 cubic metre ≈ 35.3147 cubic feet.
